Former Liverpool boss Klopp takes Red Bull role
Former Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp has been named the global head of soccer at Red Bull, with his new position set to begin on January 1, 2025.
The 57-year-old German coach expressed his excitement about the next chapter in his career, stating, "After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn't be more thrilled to take on a project like this. My role may be different, but my passion for football and the people who make the game special remains unchanged."
Red Bull, known for its ownership of RB Leipzig in Germany, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, and Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil, has also recently invested in Leeds United, taking a minority stake in the Championship club and becoming their front-of-shirt sponsor.
In his new position, Klopp will not be involved in the daily operations of these clubs. Instead, he will provide guidance on playing philosophy, transfer strategies, and coaching development.
"Jürgen Klopp is one of the most respected and influential figures in world football, known for his exceptional abilities and magnetic personality," said Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull's CEO of corporate projects and investments. "As head of soccer, he will be a transformative force for our global soccer projects and their continued growth."
